The Space Between is an atmospheric architectural painting exploring memory, transition and the quiet mystery of what lies beyond.
Layered arches draw the viewer inward toward a pale, closed door, creating a sense of passage and anticipation. Weathered turquoise, softly broken whites, earthy tones and touches of luminous gold build a surface that feels aged and discovered rather than simply painted. Marks are layered, scraped back and partially revealed, giving the work the character of a place remembered over time.
The contrast between the cool turquoise interior and the warm golden surround creates both depth and light. At the centre, the closed doorway becomes less an ending than a suggestion of possibility — the moment between where we have been and where we may go next.
Part of my ongoing Doors and Windows collection, this work reflects my fascination with thresholds: spaces that separate the visible from the unseen, memory from reality, and one chapter from another.
Its warm gold and turquoise palette makes it particularly suited to contemporary, Mediterranean-inspired, neutral or natural interiors, while the compact 30 × 40 cm size allows it to bring colour and atmosphere to a smaller wall, hallway, reading corner or intimate living space.
