Echoes of the Lilies - Original Artwork
Echoes of the Lillies is a semi-abstract interpretation of water lilies, created through layered oil paint, expressive mark-making and richly worked colour.
The composition moves between suggestion and abstraction. The lilies remain recognisable, but their forms dissolve into surrounding reflections, colour fragments and shifting marks, allowing the eye to move continuously across the surface rather than settle on a single focal point.
Built up in multiple layers of oil, the painting combines areas of broken brushwork, textured passages and small touches of colour that echo the movement of light across water. Blues, turquoise and deep greens form the atmospheric base, while vivid pinks, magentas, whites and warmer accents emerge like flashes of reflected light.
Some areas are deliberately more defined while others remain loose and fragmented, creating depth and the impression that certain flowers are closer while others recede into the water. The semi-abstract technique allows the painting to change depending on viewing distance: from farther away, the lilies and overall rhythm become clearer; up close, the surface reveals individual strokes, colour relationships and layers of texture.
The elongated 80 × 30 cm format gives the work a panoramic quality, making it particularly effective above a dining table, console, sideboard or sofa.
Rather than recreating a specific pond, Echoes of the Lillies explores the feeling of water, reflection and fleeting colour — a moment that seems constantly in motion.
